PARTICIPATE IN THE INTERNATIONAL SEMESTER

The International Semester at DHBW Villingen-Schwenningen (DHBW VS) takes place twice a year, and is designed to challenge and inspire an international mix of students at a university known for its dual system of higher education and close relations with employers.
Students from partner universities can choose from a variety of lectures and seminars, all of which are taught in English, as well as language classes at different levels. Lecturers come from different backgrounds, which add to the international atmosphere, and many of them are native speakers of English.
The International Semester starts with a one-week introduction to academic life in Germany and gives a taste of the university's open and diverse study environment. Students then follow the courses they are enrolled in, all of which are assessed by means of an exam or written assignment and therefore carry academic credits (ECTS). The courses available cover a wide range of academic fields – from Cross-cultural Competences to International Logistics, Marketing Management and language classes, and they aim to introduce students to an intercultural work environment by allowing them to interact with students from other countries while experiencing academic life in Germany.
As a student in the International semester you will also be able to participate in a varied program of cultural and social activities, including company visits and trips around the beautiful Black Forest "Baar" region.

We at DHBW VS look forward to making the International Semester as rewarding as possible for all students. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Credits

The evaluation for a course is based on the assignments assigned, e.g. presentations, essays, reports, and exams.

Requirements

All courses offered are fully credited through our university.  Credits will be documented on the certificate and transcript provided at the end of the International Semester.  Students wanting to participate in the International Semester have to self-assess their own English level (see assessment grid) and should choose their courses in compliance with their individual language skills.  A language test and one-on-one interviews at the beginning of the semester will help students to sign up for appropriate courses. Some courses, as well as the orientation week, are mandatory for all students. A personalized learning agreement must be signed between our university and the student’s home university before starting their studies.
